Antiparos - Antiparos Port

Pleasant with its narrow streets lined with houses with flowered courtyards, the port of Antiparos is bordered on both sides by beaches. During the day, he emerges from the place“I don’t know what peace”, from eternal Greece.
Located practically in the middle of the narrowest part of the north of the island, on almost flat land (10 m above sea level), the village opens onto the port, lined with taverns and cafes where it is good to sip an ouzo while tasting a few mezzés while lingering on the spectacle given by the comings and goings of the ferries providing the connection with the nearby island of Paros . The main shopping street starting from the port crosses the entire village and leads to the only square: Agios Nicolaos square very close to the Kastro district.
Located on completely flat land almost at the end of the village of Antiparos , the Kastro was built at the beginning of 1440 by Lord Loredano . Its architecture is completely different from other castles built at the same time on other islands in this corner of the Mediterranean.
The Kastro itself constitutes an autonomous complex, built around a courtyard, in the center of which was a tower of which only the base remains today. The perimeter of this courtyard consists of twenty-four two-story houses with a continuous wall three meters thick, without balconies or windows, thus forming the rampart. Access to the houses is via a single entrance to the south of the wall, extended by a small alley which serves all the homes.
Another particularity: the houses built in local stone, consist of a ground floor lower than ground level, and two floors accessible by external stairs: in stone for those which lead to the 1st floor, and in wood for those who lead to the 2nd floor.
Subsequently, twenty-four other two-story houses were built outside the wall, creating a new neighborhood. Inside the enclosure: a few chapels. The current village has continued to develop around the Kastro, today giving rise to a multitude of alleys – a real labyrinth where you can easily get lost.
The port is bordered on both sides by three beaches: Sifnaiko beach, Agios Spiridon beach and Psaraliki beach .
It has a good tourist infrastructure with many shops.

Public services : bank, post office, pharmacy, doctor’s office, bus. Rental of small motor boats. Excursions in caiques which tour the island with picnic on board and swimming in wild coves. Nice.
