Milos - Plaka and its surroundings

Plaka , the capital of the island, located 5 km from the port of Adamas , also includes the villages of Tripiti , Plakes , Triovassalos , and Pera Triovassalos .
Plaka is a hilltop town dominated by a Kastro , a Venetian fortified castle in ruins, as well as the church of Kimissitis Theologou .
The view over the entire island is superb, and the sunset over Adamas Bay is a spectacle in itself.
To the west of the village, be sure to visit the Korfiatissa church , built in 1810, on a rocky peak. It houses a beautiful carved wooden iconostasis.
The streets of Plaka are charming with their dazzling white houses, their flowered courtyards, and their picturesque churches.
There you will find an Archaeological Museum which houses objects testifying to the history of the island since the Neolithic era. There is also a Museum of Popular Art , the visit of which is interesting because it retraces the life of the inhabitants from the seventeenth century to the present day.
With the growth of tourism, Plaka has changed its “look” a little with the establishment of numerous shops and art galleries, and the opening of a large number of taverns. There are also some rentals and small guesthouses.
Tripiti offers some interesting streets. Picturesque windmills dominate the village, which is also renowned for its taverns frequented by local customers. Almost everywhere, delicious Milian specialties are served, such as “ pitarakias “, delicious fritters filled with goat’s cheese, as well as the famous “ astako makaronada “, a lobster pasta dish.
From Plaka and Tripiti , hikers can take trails that will take them to the “ Catacombs “, or to Klima and Fourkovouni which are charming fishing villages.
