7km north of Naxos , are the villages of Engares and Gallini , located on either side of the very fertile Engares valley constantly irrigated by the waters of the two artificial lakes which serve as water reserves. It is a veritable labyrinth of orchards and groves planted with citrus, and bordered by tall reed hedges. Numerous paths through the valley will allow you to take pleasant walks. A path leads to the white sand beach of Amitis . Both villages are preserved from tourism and there are very good local taverns. Between the village of Gallini and the beach of Amitis is the Monastery of Panagia Ipsilotera founded in 1600.
