Amorgos - The beaches

Amorgos is renowned for having beautiful beaches, either sandy or pebbled, with clear waters and astonishing colors. Most of them are not easy to access, in other words, they have to be earned!

Aegiali and surrounding areas: there are several sandy beaches near the port. Among them, Psili Ammos beach , Hoklakas beach and the very beautiful Levrossos beach surrounded by orchards and gardens, separated from the beach by a reed hedge and tamarisk trees, accessible on foot or by boat (shuttles in summer from Aegiali ). At the end of Aegiali beach, lovely sandy beach of Fokiotripa with its rock with a cave, which serves as a refuge for seals in winter.

4km from Aegiali are the lovely beach with a spit of sand and the coves of Agios Pavlos , and just opposite the islet of Nikouria , renowned for its beautiful beaches and fishing spots. The whole thing forms an excellent shelter for caiques. In summer caique service to go to Nikouria . Agios Pavlos is a nice holiday resort . There is a tavern and some rentals . Bus stop on the main road.

You will also find two very beautiful beaches accessible only on foot from Tholaria . Megali Glyfada beach (1 hour walk) is located in a bay protected from the winds and Mikri Glyfada beach (30 min walk), half sand, half pebbles, offers superb wild landscapes. Beautiful flat rock beach of Halara , 1 hour walk from Potamos .

Katapola : sandy beach near the port, bordered by eucalyptus trees. Taverns and cafes. There are beautiful beaches in the direct vicinity of Katapola . The sandy beach of Finikies , framed by beautiful palm trees, on the left at the exit of the port of Katapola , accessible by car, by boat (shuttles in summer from Katapola ) or on foot. The sandy beach of Agios Pandelimon is located to the left of the mouth of Katapola port . It takes its name from the pleasant chapel located there. Not far from there is, in a green setting, the pretty sandy beach of Maltezi and a little further away the beach of Plakes (with its flat rocks to enjoy every minute of sun – it is a nudist beach)

There is also the beautiful pebble beach of Agia Saranta , outside the port of Katapola , take the path on the left. The waters there are very clear. You will see, not far from there, an interesting double-nave chapel, with a long historical past.

Agia Anna : superb pebble coves, about thirty minutes walk from the Panagia Chozoviotissa Monastery .
The scenery is superb, with impressive cliffs falling sheer into the sea and beach. The color of the waters there is astonishing.

Southern beaches:
Kato Kambos Beach : Rocky coves and sandy beach, near the village of Kolofana . Pretty chapel built on the water’s edge.

Mouros Beach : The pebble beach, Mourou , is located near the villages of Arkesini and Kamari . The colors of the water are superb and the coastal landscapes extraordinary. You will also find two beautiful underwater caves there. The beach is very beautiful but unfortunately it attracts a few too many people in summer. Not far from there, a 5-minute walk to the west, Kavos beach is nestled between beautiful gray rocks.

Ammoudi Beach is a 30-minute walk from the village of Arkesini , a lovely beach of very fine white sand. It is among the most beautiful on the island . Recently, it has been possible to access it by road.

Kalotaritissa beach : large fine sand beach with sun loungers and parasols, beach bar.

Paradissia Beach : located just below the imposing church of Agia Paraskevi (known for its pilgrimage, which brings together a large number of pilgrims every year on July 26), small sandy beach where the ruins of a basilica are located paleochristian, partly rocked by the swirl of the waves.
