Santorini - Oia and surroundings

At the northern end of the island, 12 kilometers from the port, Oia is built on the edge of vertiginous cliffs. It is by far the most beautiful village on the island. Up to theSecond World War, it was the economic center. You will be able to see elegant two-story buildings with ocher facades, and also a large number of traditional dwellings, partly troglodytic, with rounded shapes dazzlingly white or even brightly colored. And above all, a countless number of chapels with blue domes which delight painters and photographers.
The main pedestrian street is paved with marble. It crosses the entire village and runs along the cliff to the ruins of an old Venetian castle. It is very commercial, lined with stores mainly run by foreigners, andmainly intended for tourists: art galleries, jewelry stores, souvenirs of good and especially bad taste. Oia is also famous for its sunset. Every day it attracts hundreds of tourists who crowd on the parapets and applaud at the magical moment.

Public services  : bank, doctor, bus service regularly linking Oia to Thira .
Three kilometers from Oia are the black sand beaches of Paradisos , Colombos and Baxedes for those looking for a quiet vacation away from the crowds Fairly wild landscapes.
